Dr. Gloria J. Murray

Academy Faculty

Dr. Gloria J. Murray is a professor emeritus of Education at Indiana University Southeast. She is the former Dean of the School of Education at Indiana University Southeast where she served for 15 years. She served as a professor for the School of Education, Director of the Office for Community Engagement, and the Coordinator of the Advance-to-Teaching program at the university. She recently served as the Site Director for the Student Success Corp- a program to connect college students with local school districts to tutor and mentor youth. She consults for Encore Louisville a program for Leadership Louisville advising nonprofits manage critical strategic issues within their organizations. Her professional and personal mission is to serve and encourage others to develop their best selves. Her strengths are collaboration, team building, organizing, problem-solving, and systems thinking. Her expertise includes leadership development, program improvement, building cultural proficiency, and creating partnerships between higher education and the community. She is the recipient of the Indiana Sagamore of the Wabash Award and the Indiana University Southeast Diversity award. Dr. Murray is inspired by stories of people who have accomplished their goals and stories of those striving to make the world a better place.

Dr. Murray is active in her community through her involvement with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she has chaired several committees and is currently the co-chair of the International Awareness and Involvement committee. She is on the board of the World Affairs Council of Kentuckiana, serving as Board Secretary and chair of the Nominations Committee. Her community engagement includes serving as the chair of the Arts Facet for the Louisville Chapter of the Links, Inc. She co-teaches a Sunday School class and helps coordinate Waterstep donations for the church. She is a member of several other local organizations where she volunteers regularly.
