Jeffrey S. Chiesa (“Jeff”) has decades of experience in leadership and charity, both in the public and private sector. Jeff serves as the Chair of the CSG Law Executive Committee and practices in the firm’s Litigation and White Collar Defense and Investigations Groups. His unique background in public service includes serving in such leadership roles as the Attorney General of the State of New Jersey, a United States Senator, Chief Counsel to the Governor and as Executive Assistant and Counsel to the U.S. Attorney. Jeff served on the U.S. Senate committees on Homeland Security and Government Affairs, Commerce, Science and Transportation and Small Business and Entrepreneurship. He worked to improve information sharing among federal agencies following the bombing at the Boston Marathon and continued his work to against human trafficking. When unanimously confirmed to Senate, Jeff was serving as New Jersey’s 59th Attorney General.
As Attorney General, Jeff was New Jersey’s chief law enforcement officer and had primary regulatory responsibility for the state’s casino, gaming and alcohol beverage industries. Additionally, Jeff served as the state’s chief legal advisor and had statewide responsibility for the enforcement of the state’s consumer protection laws and led the state’s public safety efforts following Superstorm Sandy. Before serving as Attorney General, Jeff served as Gov. Christie’s Chief Counsel, where he led the Governor’s legislative initiatives, supervising gubernatorial appointments and managing all of New Jersey’s authorities.
Today, Jeff blends his public service experience within his private legal practice. Clients seek him out for his unique insight in handling their most sensitive litigation, investigation, and monitoring matters. As Chair of the Executive Committee, Jeff helps to define the vision for the future of the firm, which over the past five years has led to dramatic growth through the addition of practice areas and attorneys at all levels in the firm, leading CSG Law to be named the Law Firm of the Year for 2021 by the New Jersey Law Journal, as well as a Regional Powerhouse by Law360. He has ensured that CSG Law maintains a robust pro bono program, giving back to the communities the firm serves.
Jeff, a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, has dedicated his personal and professional life to supporting others in need. Jeff was recognized as a Champion for Catholic Charities and a recipient of the Saint Thomas More Medal from Seton Hall University School of Law. In addition, Jeff has carried over these charitable efforts to the firm. As part of CSG Law’s 50th anniversary in 2022, the firm funded scholarships at Rutgers Law and Seton Hall Law, with the aim of supporting future lawyers in the state.
